About Purple Hands Wine

Purple Hands is owned and operated by Oregon winemaker Cody Wright. Cody grew up in the Willamette Valley, Oregon's most recognized and abundant wine region. With constant immersion in wineries and vineyards and with close family ties to some of the greatest wineries in the Northwest, Cody pursued the intense but rewarding work at key wineries in Oregon, New Zealand and Australia.

The name Purple Hands comes from Cody’s life of growing up in wineries. You start the year in harvest with your hands in “lees” (sediment of red fermenting grapes that is extremely neon purple) and with your hands working the wine from punch downs to pressing and from pressing to filling barrels purple liquid fills every finger print. Once the barrels are full very often you top them all, regularly soaking your hands… and once again “you’ve got PH”, Purple Hands! The syndrome wine makers can never get rid of.

Being part of the wine world since he was born, Cody was always immersed in the vineyards and cellars with his father and their close families. Cody grew up riding tractors and in the vineyard with his father, helping him do punch downs when he was little, he yearned to have the wisdom and strength that his father's hands embodied. As he became old enough for the tasks the family expected of him, those hands became his. Carrying on a tradition of hard work, but work with mother earth that creates a soulful connection to a place and to ourselves.

Purple Hands is why Cody respects the wine industry so much and all the people he is so fortunate to share it with.

Purple Hands primary focus is to bring beautiful wines to you every year. We have close connections to all of our vineyards, and meticulously compose the most honest expressions of terroir and clone.

Please enjoy.
